Please welcome to Sycamore Shoals, our new Seasonal Interpretive Ranger, Gillian Roberts!
Gillian will be with us for the 2015 summer season presenting historic programming, nature study opportunities, and tours. She comes to us from Englewood, Tennessee and has just recently graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan in Athens with her degree in History and English.
A few words from Gillian…..
“My family has always been interested in history and I suppose they have instilled their love for it in me throughout the years, and for that I am always grateful. Within twenty minutes of my house I can be in the Cherokee Natural Forest and have grown up loving to hike, camp, fish, and appreciate the outdoors. My dream job has been to become a Park Ranger or Interpretive Specialist, so we shall see what the future holds!
In the meantime, I am excited to share with our park guests, the great history and culture of upper East Tennessee. This summer I hope to teach someone something they did not know before their visit to the park….whether it is about the Watauga settlement or the Carter family that first settled in this area. I hope that many will learn and appreciate that this is not only where it began for the state of Tennessee, but also for the United State of America.”
This is why our Tennessee State Parks are so important; they protect and preserve the history and culture of our state for generations to come. I look forward to a summer filled with fun and learning and hope to see you all in the coming months!”
