Welcoming 2021!

With high hopes for a great year ahead, the staff of Sycamore Shoals has planned our 2021 Calendar of Special Events! Check it out by clicking on the dropdown menu above under Special Events Calendar.

Also posted is our January 2021 calendar of events which can be found under Monthly Interpretive Programs.

To provide for social distancing and protect our guests from Covid, our programs require pre-registration. Historic house tours are limited to 6 per tour.

All park programs and operations may be affected by Covid-19 related changes to program schedules, along with visitor safety considerations.  Please check with the park or follow us on the websites listed below for updated information.

Carter Mansion Tour

Wednesday, May 1 @ 11:00 am

Join Ranger Davis for a tour of Tennessee’s oldest frame house! Discover the secrets of this elegant frontier home and learn the history of the family who built it between 1775 and 1780. Tour will be given in 18th century period clothing. Registration cut-off date is Tuesday, April 30. Cash payments must be made at the park office during regular operating hours prior to registration cut-off date. The Historic John and Landon Carter Mansion is located at 1031 Broad Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643

 

Tomahawk Throwing Workshop

Wednesday, May 1 @  2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Cost: $5.00

Master the unique frontier skill of tomahawk throwing by joining Ranger Jason Davis for a hands-on tutorial.  Topics will include proper technique and release, as well as versatile applications of tomahawk use in the outdoors. No children younger than 12. Parents who wish to be present but not participate do not need to register. Please dress appropriately for the weather.  Bring your own gloves and water, all other supplies will be provided. Cash payments must be made at the park office during regular operating hours prior to registration cut-off date

Join Ranger Hayslett for a tour of Tennessee’s most remarkable example of Federalist architecture. The home of the Taylor family, Sabine Hill is a unique and beautiful home that documents the period of East Tennessee in transition from frontier to metropolitan. Cash payments must be made at the park office during regular operating hours prior to the tour. The historic Sabine Hill site is located at 2328 W G Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.

Meet Ranger Corbin Hayslett at Sabine Hill to learn about the musical melting-pot that was frontier Tennessee and how people from around the world shared culture through song.
