Watauga Valley Fife and Drum Corps


Senior Corps-10 am – noon

Junior Corps-Noon – 1 pm

The Watauga Valley Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications,

and parades. The Junior Corps is open to new members and beginners. Musical

experience is welcome but not necessary, just come with a willingness to learn.

Junior Corps members have opportunities throughout the year to move into Senior

Corps as they progress.


Carter Mansion Celebration & Militia Muster

Join us for two days of history, traditional arts and family fun as we celebrate the oldest frame house in Tennessee, and the historically prominent Carter family. Travel back to the 1780’s and tour the Carter Mansion. Witness living history reenactors demonstrating aspects of 18th century life, and see local craftsmen showcasing traditional skills.


The Liberty Spinners

This gathering of spinners and fiber artists is open to anyone interested in the art of spinning. Join us at 9:30 am on the 2nd Tuesday of each month (April to November).

Do you enjoy experiencing history as it would have been? Listen to melodies with roots in Europe and Appalachia ring through the halls of one of Tennessee’s finest examples of Federal architecture. Meet Ranger Corbin Hayslett at Sabine Hill to learn about the musical melting-pot that was frontier Tennessee and how people from around the world shared culture through song.

Please note that restroom facilities are not available at Sabine Hill – please plan accordingly.


Landscape Seminar & Plant Auction

An exciting array of unusual ornamental & native perennials, trees and shrubs will be auctioned during this event. A great opportunity to add new species to your landscape! Sponsored by The UT Extension Service, E.Tenn. Nursery Assoc., and the Eliz/Carter Co. Chamber of Commerce.


An Afternoon of early 19th century Dance with the Sabine Hill Social Society

Beginners and seasoned dancers alike are all welcome!  The afternoon will include

English Country Dance and early Appalachian dance techniques.  Meeting at the Sycamore

Shoals Visitors Center.


Workshop: Watermedia Painting Class

Cost: $12 (student brings supplies) or $20 (supplies provided)

Come and paint with watercolors and acrylics on paper! The possibilities are endless.

It may be a landscape, spring flowers, a mountain vista, or maybe even a selfie. Photo

references or tracings will be provided. Paint your own composition or follow along with

the instructor. Students with supplies may use watercolors, acrylics or fluid acrylics on paper.

Community Plant Exchange

The front parking lot will be bustling this morning! Bring cuttings and potted outdoor and indoor plants, to exchange for species you don’t have—a fun way to meet other gardeners and increase your collection.


Tomahawk Throwing Workshop

Choose “Upcoming Events” in left hand menu

Master the unique frontier skill of tomahawk throwing by joining Ranger Jason Davis for a hands-on tutorial.  Topics will include proper technique and release, as well as versatile applications of tomahawk use in the outdoors. No children younger than 12. Parents who wish to be present but not participate do not need to register. Please dress appropriately for the weather.  Bring your own gloves and water, all other supplies will be provided.


Old Time Music Jam – Led by Art Lang

Enjoy the rich musical traditions of our region each month. Old time musicians of all levels are welcome. Don’t play and instrument? Come on over, kick back, and enjoy the tunes!

1:00 PM – 4:30 PM Sunday

Our Visitors Center on most State holidays.

Park grounds are open from dawn until dusk.
