Watauga Valley Fife & Drum Corps

The Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications, and parades. This group is open to anyone ages 13 & up. Musical experience is welcome but not necessary; just come with a willingness to learn. Meet at the Sycamore Shoals Visitors Center. Lessons are free of charge, just call and let us know you’re coming!
Walking in Frontier Footsteps
Saturday, June 3
Celebrate National Trails Day at Sycamore Shoals! Join Corbin Hayslett for a special guided walk of a portion of the Overmountain Victory Trail which runs through Sycamore Shoals on Saturday, June 3. Walk through the park and along the river to the sacred historical River Crossing of the Overmountain Men and the hallowed Muster Grounds as we explore the impacts of our frontier ancestors on our local and national history. The Overmountain Victory Trail helps to preserve the history and memory of the patriots who won the Battle of Kings Mountain during the American Revolution.
Dress appropriately for the weather as we will be taking a casual stroll on the walking path and through the park grounds. Meet in the Visitor Center lobby, hike will begin at 9:00 am. Please no pets. Hike is subject to cancellation due to significantly inclement weather. Contact the park for more information.
27th Year in 2017! Sycamore Shoals Native American Festival

A two-day celebration of our Native American heritage! Award-winning dancers, storytellers, artists, and scholars gather at the circle to share knowledge and demonstrate their skills. Come and discover Native American arts, music, and legends, with an emphasis on the Cherokee culture. Admission Charge.
18th Century Eastern Cherokee Style Trade Necklace

Cost: $25 includes materials
Min: 1 Max: 15
In this class you will make an early trade necklace using authentic 150 to 200 year old beads. You will also add bone spacers, and/or coyote or buffalo teeth.
Watauga Valley Art League Meeting and Program

Everyone is welcome to join the Watauga Valley Art League for their monthly meetings that feature a guest speakers and fellowship with area artists. WVAL meets the 2nd Sunday of each month, except October.

Make stone tools such as the arrow point using only traditional techniques. Please be sure to register no later than 1 week prior to the class. Adults only.

This multi-media exhibit is two art shows in one: “14th Annual Judged show” and the “22nd Annual Watauga Valley Art League Member show”. Public is invited to the June 28 Reception and to enjoy the art exhibit all month.
