Watauga Valley Fife and Drum Corps


Senior Corps-10 am – noon

Junior Corps-Noon – 1 pm

The Watauga Valley Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications,

and parades. The Junior Corps is open to new members and beginners. Musical

experience is welcome but not necessary, just come with a willingness to learn.

Junior Corps members have opportunities throughout the year to move into Senior

Corps as they progress.


TN Watercolor Society Traveling Show

Don’t miss this traveling show of 30 juried paintings created by award winning watercolor artists from across the state. The exhibition originates in Clarksville and comes to Sycamore Shoals every other year. We are honored to announce that local artists, Barbara Jake Wilson and Linda Campbell have paintings in the 2018 exhibit!


Ranger Led Bike Ride

Join Rangers Davis and Hayslett for a ranger led bike ride up the Tweetsie Trail to the Elizabethton Covered Bridge, then back to the park via the Elizabethton Linear Trail. Total loop will be about 6 miles and take approximately one hour depending on the average ability level of the attending participants. Portions of the route will not be suitable for pull behind child carriers. Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring your own water. Program will be cancelled/rescheduled in the event of severely inclement weather.


National Garden Club Standard Flower Show

Join us for the Shady Oaks Garden Club fall show, state winners of several top flower show awards in recent years. This year’s event will include artistic flower designs, horticulture specimens, educational exhibits, and botanical art creations.


The Liberty Spinners

This gathering of spinners and fiber artists is open to anyone interested in the art of spinning. Join us at 9:30 am on the 2nd Tuesday of each month (April to November).

Join Ranger Davis for a tour of Tennessee’s oldest frame house! Discover the secrets of this elegant frontier home and learn the history of the family who built it between 1775 and 1780. Tour will be given in 18th century period clothing. The Historic John and Landon Carter Mansion is located at 1031 Broad Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643


Fishin’ with a Ranger

Join Rangers Hayslett and Davis for a morning of fishin’ and fun at the Historic Carter House!

Located at 1031 Broad Street, please bring your lucky pole and favorite lures. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather, program will be cancelled/rescheduled in the event of severely inclement weather.


Frontier Fiddlin’

The fiddle was used for all sorts of music on the frontier! From ballad accompaniment, dance tunes, and lonesome soulful pieces, early residents of this region expressed themselves through the tones of violins in all shapes and sizes. Join Ranger Hayslett in historic Sabine Hill (built 1818) to venture back in time and experience frontier fiddlin’.


The Gathering at Sycamore Shoals

On Saturday the 16th of September 2017, the Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution will celebrate the 236th “Gathering at Sycamore Shoals”. This is a celebration of the Overmountain Men coming together to march to King’s Mountain and defeat Loyalist forces under Col. Patrick Ferguson. We will have a Memorial Service and a wreath laying service. An Afternoon of early 19th century Dance with the Sabine Hill Social Society

21th Annual Fort Watauga Knap-In

Knapping—with a “K”—has nothing to do with sleep! Knapping is the art of making stone tools, and the Knap-In at Fort Watauga is our celebration of Tennessee Archaeology Week. Watch primitive skills craftsmen make arrowheads, spear points and other survival tools. There will be demonstrations of primitive tools such as the bow, arrow and atlatl throughout the day. 


Overmountain Victory Trail Celebration – RESCHEDULED!

This 2 day event has been rescheduled to November 10 and 11 in conjunction with the annual Harvest Celebration and Fibers Show!

Join us for an encampment by the Overmountain militia before the Battle of King’s Mountain in 1780. Live some of the most crucial days of the American Revolution!

Enjoy the rich musical traditions of our region each month. Old time musicians of all levels are welcome. Don’t play and instrument? Come on over, kick back, and enjoy the tunes!


Overmountain Victory Trail March  – RESCHEDULED!

The annual crossing of the Watauga River will take place on Sunday, November 11th in honor of all veterans, celebrating Veteran’s Day!  Details to be announced.

Members of the Overmountain Victory Trail Association have recreated the historic march to King’s Mountain since 1975. On September 25, marchers will cross the Watauga River at Sycamore Shoals, just as the Overmountain militia crossed 236 years ago.

Our Visitors Center is closed on most State holidays.

Park grounds are open from dawn until dusk.
